You know what we can't stomach, Dear Listener? All of those podcasts about vampires. That's right, the Randomizer AB1700 sends us back to 1987 to take a look at Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys. It's a bloody good time this week as we talk about one of the most beloved vampire films of all time. Or is it?

This week we take off the nostalgia goggles to dissect the story of two boys who have to take on a pack of sexy vampires led by Keifer Sutherland. We thought it only right then that we discuss our favorite sexy vampires for our game. There's also some discussion about whether sexy vampires are an accurate vampire portrayal. What do you have to say about that, dear listener? We would love to hear from you! We then get down to business to discuss what is really going on in Santa Carla. Alex swoops in first to discuss the family dynamics within the film, specifically focusing on the portrayal of the divorcee mother and her function within the narrative. She integrates this into a larger framework discussing how society views the family unit. Caleb reads the film as an allegory for gang violence that was taking place within the 80s. He acknowledges the factions within the film - the vampires and the Frog Bros and Friends. He discusses the different familial and social factors that are pressuring Michael and ties everything together. Dalton keeps the idea of teenage portrayal going and how the film engages the mindset of the teenager. He raises ideas of mortality and how teenagers view their own mortality. Dustin makes a case for the film to be a queer film. He discusses the differences between gay cinema and queer cinema and gives examples to support his case through the formalist aspects, the narrative, and the performances.

Hello listeners! Welcome to GoodTrash Media's deadCenter 2016 sneak peek preview show! In this special edition of The GoodTrash Genrecast, we'll be taking a look at the biggest films playing at Oklahoma's premiere film festival! 2016 marks the sixteenth year for deadCenter and the first GoodTrash Media is attending! Throughout the festival, we will be bringing you podcast interviews with the filmmakers, reviews of some of the headlining films, and much more!

The deadCenter Film Festival kicks off June 9 with an opening party on the roof OKCMOA at 5pm with the film Hunt For Wilderpeople playing in the MOA theater at 6. From that point forward, it's going to be movies, movies, movies until the festival closes Sunday June 12! GoodTrash Media is happy to be your guide to all of the festivals biggest premieres 

In our podcast preview special, Dustin, Alex, and myself take a look at the films on the roster and when/where they'll be playing.

We've got mutants and time travel, Dear Listener, but this isn't an X-Film, we're talking Rian Johnson's Looper. It's an exciting time at the analysis table as Looper was the source of some conflict in our very early days between Dalton and Dustin. Now that we add Caleb and Arthur into the mix, things get turned up to 11 early on as Caleb and Dustin go 'round and 'round during the reviews section. It gets a little warm, dear listener.

The game is inspired this week as we talk 2 Actors, 1 Character and talk about actors that we want to see young and old versions of a character a la Looper. We then head into our analysis section where Caleb brings us up to speed on the history of time travel in fiction. He provides a great historical background and traces the different types of time stories and how they function and the problems within each sub-genre. Dalton moves forward out of this history lesson to tell us about the myth of redemptive violence. He discusses how the characters in this film take the ideas of redemptive violence to an extreme end. Arthur is the next to take the mic and he talks about the film's stance on nostalgia, homage, and intertextuality and how all of that is used to build a narrative with a more layered nuance. He highlights a number of films that Looper is lifting from and how it uses that to try to provide a unique take on an old story. Dustin takes these ideas to the next level as he claims that Looper plays out the film noir cycle and how the film calls back to and presents ideas from the film noir cycle. Dustin provides a strong understanding of the film noir cycle and how that functioned and moved.

Shuffle up and deal, Dear Listener, the original GoodTrash triad is back to talk Rounders. Arthur, Dalton, and Dustin gather around the table to play some cards and talk about the 1998 poker film starring Matt Damon, Ed Norton, and John Malkovich. The guys kick the show off proper by talking about Celebrities they Want to Play Poker With. And Dear Listener, we want to know, who would you want at your celebrity Hold 'Em table? The gang burn and turn and get down to business. Arthur lays a foundation for the discussion by making a case for Rounders as a cult film. He draws from the British well with a look at Justin Smith's article "British Cult Cinema" which highlights several markers of a cult film. Dalton tags in during his analysis to talk about the Bro-y nature of this movie before coming back in later to deliver his analysis. Dalton looks at the movie as a commentary on the nature of ambition and self-destruction. Looking at the dynamic between Damon's Mike and Norton's Worm, Dalton draws conclusions about the danger of ambition if not properly haltered and focused. Dustin calls the action on the table, and raises the bet with a conversation about the film's flirtation with the Film Noir style. Citing Roger Ebert's review of the film, Dustin explores whether Rounders is a true Noir, or if it's just playing dress up.

The adventure begins this week as we play our very own Choose Your Own Adventure game. We put together our own adventure films by casting our lead actor and villain then selecting our MacGuffin and location. A good time is had by all, and Dalton wants to see all of the movies discussed. We then get down to business. Alex is the first to put her business socks on as she discusses the objectification, both sexual and general, of women in this film. Dalton continues his series of protagonist studies as he talks about Michael Douglas and his kind of bumbling hero who is a step behind the action and a bit of a schmuck. Caleb does a compare and contrast ofRomancing the Stone and platforming and adventure video games specifically the Uncharted series. Dustin takes a postcolonial glance of Romancing the Stone and discusses how the minorities are used for romanticism and mysticism and most troubling for white entertainment.

Choose your side, Dear Listener. This week, we get amped for the re-launch of our Patreon and the upcomingCaptain America: Civil War by taking a look back at one of the MCU's best films - Captain America: Winter Soldier. That's right, although we were all disheartened by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice we opted to head over to the MCU to get a proper fix of superhero goodness.

This week the table is full as Arthur, Dalton, Alex, Caleb, and Dustin discuss the first avenger. The game this week, inspired by Zack Snyder's comments about being inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai in working on the Justice League stuff, is Superhero Movies That We Want to See Directed by Classic Directors. This is one of our favorite games in a while and we have a good time getting into these faux pitches. Let us know some of your picks in the comments or on social media!

To set the stage for this week's analysis, Arthur walks us through a history of the Superhero Film Cycle. He discusses where these cycles begin and how they build traction. Building off this foundation, Caleb looks at the culture from a different angle and how the impact of and reaction to 9/11 has impacted entertainment and the action film. These ideas of identity and personhood and Steve Rogers are taken even further as Dalton puts together his treatise on why Captain America is so interesting as a character. He builds off of Caleb's analysis while also looking back at his reading from Django (1966) and puts together a solid profile of Cap. Dustin then flips the coin and looks at the dark side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He brings up the works of Slavoj Zizek  and ideology and discusses how Captain America: Winter Soldier wants to buck the norm and counter ideology, but at the end of the day nothing is really that different.

This week, we build up an appetite playing our game. In honor of the Spaghetti Western, we talk about what foods we like to pair with our favorite movies. It gets delicious, unless Alex is in the kitchen. We then round up the usual varmints and kick off our analysis. Caleb gets the ball rolling, reading Django through the lens of a social commentary as he looks at the film as an analogy for what was going on during the cold war. He and Dalton connect the film to Dr. Strangelove and Fail Safe. Alex then takes over and leads a discussion of the intertextual influence of Django on other movies, particularly in the works of Quentin Tarantino. Dalton goes next to remind us about the history of the Western genre, and how that shifts by the 60s. He continues his genre reading as he highlights how the Hero moved from white to shades of grey. Dustin wrangles the hosts in to bring this cattle run home. He talks about the ideology present in Django, and how the film highlights misogyny, racism, classicism, and then turns a blinding light on how bad these ideals are.

Hello there dear listener! If you're listening to this, you've landed back in 2016 and we are the GoodTrash GenreCast and this week we take a look at Terry Gilliam's time romp Twelve Monkeys. To do so, we've gone outside the Network to find a guest host to join us at the table, Mr. Eric King. Eric King is one of the co-hosts ofCinema Curio and is a member of the OKC Film Club who host live screenings every month in the Plaza District of Oklahoma City. He is also a fan of Terry Gilliam, so we thought we'd phone-a-friend and bring him in.

This week, we talk our favorite time machines to get the ball rolling. After having some fun talking about time travel, a topic that Caleb could discuss on repeat y'all, we throw Twelve Monkeys on the table for analysis. Alex kicks things off by mixing two parts auteurism to one part reader response theory to put together a comparison reading of Twelve Monkeys which feels like a spiritual sequel or follow up to Brazil which we discussed during our 2016 Anti-Trash marathon. Guest Eric King takes over from here as he discusses the film in formalist terms. He highlights the films fidelity to traditional time travel narratives and specifications, while critiquing the movie's pacing. Caleb keeps the auteurist thread going as he hones in on the themes Twelve Monkeys and how Gilliam addresses many of the same topics here as he did in Brazil. Caleb proposes that Twelve Monkeys takes the commentary on consumerism from Brazil and takes it even further by deconstructing its impact on society. Dustin then takes us home and gets didactic as he talks Gilles Deleuze. In his discussion of Deleuze, Dustin deals with issues of film periodization and the theory of the Time Image... These are the things that Dustin talks about - you know that by now, Dear Listener.

Crikey mate! We're back this week and Arthur returns to the table with his host pick, Crocodile Dundee. That's right, Arthur decided to torture his fellow casters by taking a look at the 1986 hit that launched Mick Dundee into the American vernacular. That's right, that what you're listening to.. that's not a podcast, this is a podcast.

The game gets the roundtable going as the gents talk about their favorite "X goes to New York City" movies which feature the fish out of water trope, where that fish is put in New York City. We then move into our analysis of the film and Arthur gets to bring the thunder from down under first as he takes a formalist approach and discusses the structure of the film. He talks about how the film is two films intertwined into one narrative. Dalton then looks at the film's commentary on class portrayal. His sociological side comes out as he unwraps the complex ideal of what exactly class represents, stating that it is much more than just a financial status. Dalton pitches this strand to Dustin and the two draw up a play that they take home for a touchdown. Dustin keeps the class and race idea going as he mentions the magical character aspects of Mick's character. Dustin talks about totems within racial constructs. He builds this foundation to establish his thesis that capitalism uses racial and class constructs to hide what capitalism does.
