We're rounding the bend on Shocktober 9 with a Cronenberg classic. That's right, we're talking twins, psychoanalysis, and Dead Ringers. This story of twin gynecologists who manipulate those around them is not at all what we expected. This week, we're discussing Cronenberg, the film's approach to sex and psychology, the presentation of characters, how the film unfolds, and so much more. Join us to hear our thoughts on Dead Ringers, and then stick around to the end to hear Dalton announce the final piece of the Shocktober puzzle.

Thursday Oct 15, 2020
Thursday Oct 15, 2020
Dalton continues to lead us through his house of horrors as we enter a psychedelic moment in horror, the 1977 Japanese ghost story, House. House, or Hausu, has always been explained by Dustin as Scooby-Doo directed by Rob Zombie. In this episode, we find out if that tracks. We discuss history and horror, the use of cross-genre conventions to make a point, surreal function in the film's design, and much more as Shocktober 9 continues to roll along.

Ep. 387: Day of the Dead (1985) - Shocktober 9
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
It's Shocktober 9, Bay-Bee! And we've handed the reins over to Dalton, who is turning 30 this month. To celebrate, he gets to do the programming all month long with one caveat—all the movies have to be at least 30 years old. For his first pick, Dalton picked a banger as he chose George A. Romero's Day of the Dead. The third piece of the Dead franchise, Day of the Dead follows a group of scientists and soldiers trying to figure out their next moves in an underground bunker. This week, we're talking neoliberal politics, the impact of Day of the Dead on the zombie genre, the use of violence and gore, and the film's ending. Tune in now to hear us wax as poetic as we can over this one, and stay til the end to find out what Dalton's selected for next week!
