Welcome back to the GoodTrash GenreCast, a podcast devoted to talking about the movies you would not discuss in a film studies course. And due to some audio Gremlins who we can't quite get rid of, we've got a special double episode for you as we cover both Cruel Intentions AND Footloose!
Despite our last month of content, we dove right back into the trash. And we're back in a big was as we take a look at the 1999 cult hit Cruel Intentions, which features a murderer's row of 90s teen stars, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Selma Blair, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon. In this updated take on Dangerous Liasons, two step-siblings enter into a wager of lust-filled antics. In this episode, we take a look at how we think the film aged, the issues of adults playing teenagers, and more!
Then, we get down into 1984's Footloose with Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, and Sarah Jessica Parker. We break this one open after spending several moments discussing movie title tracks. We take a look at the abuse in this film, the lack of nuance, and much, much more.

Welcome one and all to the third chapter in our AntiTrash 2021 journey through La République as we take a look at Carl Th. Dreyer's silent masterpiece, The Passion of Joan of Arc (La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc) from 1928. Centered on an iconic performance by Renee Falconetti, Dryer tells the story of the young martyr Joan of Arc. The film was released just a few years following the canonization of Joan by the Catholic church. We discuss Dreyer's intentions, the film theory of photogenie, the portrayal of Joan and her trial, and much more as we dive into this classic from France.

We wrap up our Part 3s, Chapter 2 marathon the way we have every year for the past few years—talking about the highest grossing (domestic) film of the year. And this year, things got wild as a early winter release lead the pack due to COVID. That's right, we're heading to Miami to talk all about Bad Boys for Life. This week, we're talking all about the films approach to gender and identity. We look at some of the films its cribbing from, and weather its work is a proper homage or played out pastiche. We also talk the state of current popular cinema.

Happy Mank Day! In honor of David Fincher's newest movie, we're kickstarting our new marathon Part 3s, Chapter 2 with Fincher's first film, Alien3. Through the years, Fincher has been evoked a number of times, through our early Fincher Rule that we harnessed Dalton with to talking a number of his films. So, it only made sense we'd tackle the notorious third entry in the Alien franchise to celebrate the release of his newest work Mank. On this week's show, we're talking all about religious groups in films, studio intervention, the film's messaging in contrast with Alien and Aliens, and much more.
