Thursday May 20, 2021
Thursday May 20, 2021
We enter week 3 of "Welcome to the Family" (on time, I might add) with the Karyn Kusama directed thriller The Invitation. This under-the-radar thriller is set in one location and focuses on only a handful of characters, some of whom have bought into a new movement, called The Invitation. On this week's episode, we're going deep on social interactions, technical elements, the dangers of proselytizing, grief and working through pain, and much more.

Sorry for the delay, we got held up at a local summer celebration. We're continuing our "Welcome to the Family" marathon this week with a look at Ari Aster's follow up to Hereditary, which is Midsommar. The movie plays opposite to Hereditary in many ways. Another story about grief, this tale takes place primarily in the light. Bringing horror and trauma out into the open. We talk all about moral relativism, cultural practices, Aster's techniques, grief, folk horror and much more.

Welcome to a new month and a new marathon! We would love for you to gather with us as we kickoff "Welcome to the Family", a marathon devoted to movies about cults. We're starting off with a cult (no pun intended) classic from 1984, Children of the Corn. The Stephen King adaptation stars a Pre-Terminator Linda Hamilton as one half of a couple who get stuck in a ghost town in Nebraska, only to find the remaining townspeople are under the age of 19. This week, we talk He Who Walks Behind the Corn, cults, generational gaps, the Satanic Panic, and much more as we dive into cults, films, and films about cults.
