Thursday Feb 25, 2021
Thursday Feb 25, 2021
Get to the pitch and square up, we're having a ball talking all about Gurinder Chadha's Bend It Like Beckham. That's right, we're talking sports, which only plays to about 33.3% of our strengths. This tale of two young women battling for their identity against their unique cultures is one of the most beloved sports movies of the last 20 years. But, does it hold up? We talk all about that, and then break it down to talk British Cinema, British Identity, feminism, kinetic editing, and much more.

Things get back to normal this week on the GenreCast as we take a look at the 2012 historical war piece Red Tails. This LucasFilm production tells the story of the Tuskegee Air Men in World War II. Boasting an all-star cast of Black actors, the movie hits the skies with momentum, but can it soar or does it backfire? We discuss war movies and race, planes and evolving technology, the old practical vs CGI debate, and much more in this week's episode!

Ep. 404: Cruel Intentions (1999) AND Footloose (1984)
Friday Feb 12, 2021
Friday Feb 12, 2021
Welcome back to the GoodTrash GenreCast, a podcast devoted to talking about the movies you would not discuss in a film studies course. And due to some audio Gremlins who we can't quite get rid of, we've got a special double episode for you as we cover both Cruel Intentions AND Footloose!
Despite our last month of content, we dove right back into the trash. And we're back in a big was as we take a look at the 1999 cult hit Cruel Intentions, which features a murderer's row of 90s teen stars, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Selma Blair, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon. In this updated take on Dangerous Liasons, two step-siblings enter into a wager of lust-filled antics. In this episode, we take a look at how we think the film aged, the issues of adults playing teenagers, and more!
Then, we get down into 1984's Footloose with Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, and Sarah Jessica Parker. We break this one open after spending several moments discussing movie title tracks. We take a look at the abuse in this film, the lack of nuance, and much, much more.
Sorry for the delays, and the truncated episodes, but we'll hopefully be back next week in a more normal fashion.
