Ep. 395: Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker
Friday Nov 27, 2020
Friday Nov 27, 2020
As we all record from our own variation of The Zone, Dustin wraps up his celebration month with a trademark choice — Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. The 1979 genre-bending art house picture is a textbook example of the type of stuff Dustin likes to make us watch. This week, we're diving deep on formalism, spiritualism, ideology, and much more as we tackle this titan of Soviet cinema.

Ep. 394: Hero (2002)
Thursday Nov 19, 2020
Thursday Nov 19, 2020
Dustin's second pick of the month was required to be a martial arts film. Why? Because he has focused his PhD work on martial arts and kung fu cinema. So, Dustin picked a film from 2002 that made its way stateside following the success of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. We're talking Zhang Yimou's Hero. Once we get it on the analysis table, Dustin digs into his PhD work and how Hero represents that. We discuss form and genre in regards to Wuxia films. The film's ideology and politics are ripe for discourse. And, finally, we try to figure out the film's gender representation. So, tune in for our 3rd week in the celebration of Pops, and take time to watch Hero if you've not seen it before—or just give it a rewatch because it's good!

Ep. 393: Highlander (1986)
Thursday Nov 12, 2020
Thursday Nov 12, 2020
Pops has picked his first movie, and there can be only one! His very trashy GoodTrash pick is none other than Highlander. He admits he partially picked this one in honor of the late, great Sean Connery. This Christopher Lambert-starring action-fantasy-sci-fi became a cult classic in the time since. We give a queer reading of the film, and dive deep into the other themes present in the film.

Episode 392 has arrive—better late than never! Wait a minute, 392? 3 times 9 is 27...and 9 times 2 is 18.... and 18 and 5 is....23?! Yep, that's right. We're talking The Number 23.
That's it. That's the movie.
We're talking mental health, the spiritual catharsis of storytelling, Joel Schumacher, and much much more in this episode as we dive into the late director's second team-up with Jim Carrey—The Number 23.
And we're doing this to honor Dustin! Our Godfather of Goodtrash hit a milestone birthday this month, so we're celebrating him all month long. So, come along for the ride and see what we have planned.

Ep. 391: Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) - Shocktober 9
Wednesday Nov 04, 2020
Wednesday Nov 04, 2020
Producer's Note: Sorry for the delay, but the unorthodox OKC ice storm left me without power and internet for a few days. Also, the file seemed to have some issues, so I've had to salvage it as best I can. We apologize for the mangled nature, but it feels true to the spirit of the Gremlins franchise.
Shocktober 9 comes to a close this week. We're finally leaving Dalton's House of Horrors, but not before squaring off against that adorable Magwai Gizmo and his slimy offspring. That's right, after 8 years, we've returned to the world of Gremlins. This week, we're discussing The Gremlins 2: The New Batch in all its anarchic glory. We take a deep dive into post modern theory this week as we dissect the Loony Tunes anarchy that appears on screen in this unhinged sequel that's ahead of its time in many ways.
