GoodTrash Shelvie Awards 2019

December 26th, 2019

It's the end of the year as we know it, and we feel fine. We're wrapping up 2019 like we do every year — The Shelvies! The Shelvies are our chance to sit down and reflect on the year in GoodTrash. This is specifically tailored to the movies we watched for the podcast. Our best of 2019 episode will be out in January. This week, we're awarding our Best Worst Movie, dropping the Hebrew Hammer, revisiting the Once More With Feeling, and finally we'll add titles to the Platinum Shelf.

Ep. 348: Avengers Endgame

December 19th, 2019

We finish our 2019 retrospective with a look at the highest grossing film of the year. To absolutely nobody's surprise, Avengers Endgame took the number one spot. The cultural event became the highest grossing film of all time, edging out Avatar. This week, we explore the final chapter in the Infinity Saga and discuss spoiler culture, cinema, the Disney machine, Lacan, failure narratives, and much more. So tune in now as we talk the biggest movie of 2019.

Ep. 347: The Nightingale (2019)

December 12th, 2019

As our 2019 retrospective begins winding down, Arthur kills the mood by choosing Jennifer Kent's follow up to The Babadook, The Nightingale. This Tasmanian period piece is a brutal, realistic take on the revenge thriller. Kent crafts a beautiful film that is increasingly harder and harder to watch. This week, we take a look at the three big Es on the eye chart: racism, colonialism, and assault. Before any of that business, we expand our syllabus and break down what we like and don't like about the movie.

Ep. 346: The Kid Who Would Be King (2019)

December 5th, 2019

Hello! Happy December! We're back after eating all the turkey to continue our 2019 retrospective. This week, we're looking at Dalton's pick, The Kid Who Would Be King. Joe Cornish made a little splash with what has become a cult hit in Attack the Block. But, its been EIGHT years since that little cult hit came out. And he's back with an adolescent take on King Arthur lore. This week, we talk all about nationalism, King Arthur, absent fathers, and chosen ones. Tune in now to hear our thoughts on this little seen fantasy adventure.

TwiLit Ep. 2 - “It’s a whole sucking thing.”

December 4th, 2019

Episode 2 of TwiLit is finally here! Don't try to hold them to a schedule, they're busy. On this week's show, Kirsten and Erin are breaking down all things vampire lore. From history to iconography to biology, it's all on the table. But, they're not alone. This week, GoodTrash's resident vampire expert, Dustin Sells, stops by to help explore the history of the vampire as we've come to understand it. Dustin hosts his own show on vampires in media: The BorgoCast, go give it a listen on iTunes. While you're there, make sure you subscribe to the GenreCast so you can keep up with new TwiLit when it drops.
