Avengers: Infinity War — GTGC #297

What better way to wind 2018 down than a look at the biggest film of the year, Avengers: Infinity War. A project ten years in the making, Infinity War is the mega crossover event MCU fans have been dreaming of. But does it work? We break open this star-studded film to talk commercial film making, story structure and serialized narrative, raising the stakes and fascism. And of course, we also play our game. This week, in honor of Phase 3 wrapping up, we highlight Marvel characters we hope to see in the MCU. Don't forget to rate, review and subscribe to the GenreCast!

A Prayer Before Dawn — GTGC #296

December 14th, 2018

As we draw near to the end of 2018, we start to wrap up our look back at the year with Dalton's pick A Prayer Before Dawn. This experiential drama is a tough watch, but the bigger question is, does it have anything to say? With A Prayer Before Dawn, we discuss gender politics on screen, the male gaze, the ambiguous ending, studio-driven sales points and realism in cinema. Before all of that, we talk about our Favorite Cinematic Fighters. Tune in now to hear us analyze this under-the-radar 2018 pick.

Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy (2018) – GTGC #295

December 8th, 2018

Our look back at 2018 continues with Arthur picking cult-hit Mandy, in episode 295. For the second time Panos Cosmatos appears on the GenreCast. A few years earlier, we tackled Beyond the Black Rainbow. Knowing his background and considering the lead casting of Nicholas Cage, this quickly became one of Arthur's most highly anticipated films of 2018. Couple that with a blink-and-you-miss it theatrical run in Oklahoma, Arthur knew what had to be done. In this episode, we're joined by GoodTrash's own Frightful Femme Kirsten Therkelson. We break open Mandy and discuss the icebox trope, the satanic panic, cult leaders and much more. But before all of that, we play our game—Favorite Revenge Seekers.
