Launching in the fall of 2012 as a branch of the University of Central Oklahoma's Film Society, the GoodTrash GenreCast (GTGC) is now an independent production. Each week we apply film, critical, and sociological theory to films not typically found in a classroom; because as the great critic Pauline Kael once said, “Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash we have very little reason to be interested in them." We then discuss films, tropes, and other subjects related to the movie at hand. We make referrals in our "Shelf or Trash: Else or Instead" segment, we play games and have discussions related to the movie, and at the end of each show we talk about what has us fired up in pop-culture. It's a little educational, a little funny, and a little pretentious. Think of it as the conversations you have when you get out of the movie theater with more structure. We invite you to come along for the ride each and every week Dear Listener.
